Curriculum vitae
Diploma (honours) in Biology, 1999, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GR
PhD in Animal Physiology, 2005, Department of Zoology, School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GR
Chrisovalantis Papaefthimiou was born in Larissa, Greece (1975). He joined the Laboratory of Animal Physiology (LoP), in 1997 initially as a undergraduate student to study the effects of pyrethroid insecticides on the heart of the bee Apis mellifera macedonica and then as a doctorate student. At the Lop, he was involved in European (http://www-herbic.bio.auth.gr/) and national research projects on insect heart physiology and environmental toxicology. In February 2004, he joined INRA, Unite de phytopharmacie et mediateurs chimiques (Versailles, France) after gaining a Marie Curie Fellowship from European Commission and was trained at patch clamp electrophysiology and neuron culture, working on molecular mechanisms underlying insect olfaction.
Since September 2006, he taught ‘Electrophysiology: conventional and advanced methods’ as a part-time lecturer at School of Medicine in the University of Thessaly (2006-2007). Since December 2006, he serves as administrative, research fellow and teaching personnel for laboratory exercises of LoP.
His published work mostly investigates mechanisms that control electrical activity of insect heart, effects of pesticides and herbicides on the heart of insect and amphibian and toxicological studies in peripheral nervous system. His current research interests mainly focus on toxicological studies on heart in vivo and in vitro, validation of the quality of Royal Jelly and effects of electromagnetic radiation on honey bee.
He is a member of Hellenic Scientific Society of Apiculture and Sericulture and Friend of Hellenic Society for Neuroscience (HSN).
